Why I Really Don't Think The New Hummer EV is Worth It
The new Hummer sounds pretty awesome, and insane, with 1000 horsepower and 11,000 pound-feet of torque. But there are many negative things about the new Hummer too. Today I will be taking a look at all of the pros and cons of the new Electric Hummer.
The first issue with the new hummer is that its big, very big. And big means heavy with a battery that will just make it even heavier. In total this hummer weighs over 7,000 pounds and it’s also 7.2 feet wide. If you take into account that the average lane in America is 11 feet wide you are not going to have much space to drive. GMC was going to sell it in England until they realized the average road in the UK is 9 feet wide, which only gives you 1 foot of room on either side. What I’m saying is, it’s too big to fit on the UK’s roads! (mind you the brits would never drive a Hummer anyway)
The second con about the 2021 Hummer is its interior. It’s honestly pretty basic, for a $100k+ car I would really expect more than just a basic GMC Yukon interior. There are way better cars with way better interiors for the price. Take the 2022 Bronco for example. Ford redid the dashboard, put some really nicely stitched seats in, and made the gauge cluster really simple and clean. They didn’t just take the interior from the F-150 and stick it in the Bronco, they took time to make a good looking interior.
Another con about the new electric Hummer is its range. 250 Miles is not that good considering some of the newer Teslas have 400 mile plus range. GMC says it will do 350 but someone tested it and only lasted around 250 miles.
The new Hummer also does not look nice. It’s like a Hummer mixed with a GMC Sierra mixed with a Tesla. Personally think they have done a really crappy job on the design. The wheels are nice but they took them off the Ram Rebel TRX (Article on that HERE) and everything else is pretty bland and boxy. The front skid plate also looks like it was ripped off from the Raptor. Even its crab crawl system was taken off the 2005 Jeep Hurricane concept andhas all of the same mechanics too.
I would say that the Rivian RT1 is a way better electric truck, it looks better, has a way, way better range, and has a really nice interior. It’s just a better alternative. Also guess what, it actually fits on roads so you can drive it like a normal car! All jokes aside, the Rivian is way cheaper and just better in general. I just don’t think this new hummer is worth it, there are way better examples of electric trucks out there and this just isn’t the best one. I honestly think GMC could have done a way better job on the new Hummer EV. But they did not do that great of a job, so I really don’t think that this new Hummer will sell well at all, and I mean at all!
