5 Cars That Will Be Discontinued By 2022
Many cars are being discontinued due to the changes in emissions output and a move towards electric technology. This means that manufacturers often stop production of some old cars, but to make way for new and more environmentally-friendly cars. Then again, some care are discontinued because they just don’t sell well, even though they may be great cars.
The Chevy Camero is possibly one of the most iconic muscle cars ever. But in 2021 It will sadly be discontinued. The Camero is such a fantastic beast of a car and it’s pretty sad to see it go. Chevy are discontinuing the car to make room for more economical cars. With the loss of the Camero, that just leaves the Dodge Challenger to compete with the Mustang for muscle car bragging rights. Let’s just hope Chevy brings the Camero nameplate back sometime soon.
Speaking of the Ford Mustang, The Ford GT350 and 350R will both be put out of production for 2021. The GT350 is another great muscle car. It was the perfect car for people who wanted something fast, but not as brutally quick fast as a GT500. With around 500 horsepower and a perfect weight balance, it is a great driver’s car. Now the only high-end sports car in Ford’s lineup is the GT500. The GT350 was a perfect car and it’s pretty sad that Ford is discontinuing the GT350 and 350R.
The Alfa Romeo 4C is possibly the best Alfa ever made. It’s a lightweight, rear-engine sports car that flies around the corners. It doesn’t have much horsepower, but it’s more of a driver’s car rather than a high horsepower supercar. It’s like a rear-engined Miata. However, Alfa’s sales sucked, despite many media pundits saying it was one of the best cars they have ever driven. Alfa Romeo was losing money for every car they made because when built they would just sit on the lot waiting to be bought. In fact just 92 4Cs have been sold this year! So, to no one’s surprise, they are not going to make the 4C anymore.
The Audi TT is one of the greatest sports cars of all time, so when enthusiasts heard they were cutting production they were pretty angry. And so they should be, the TT was the perfect 4WD 2-seater sports car, it was light with sharp steering which made it really fun to drive. It had the perfect amount of horsepower. Sadly it's bigger and stronger brother the R8 is going out of production too. Together these German icons are some of the greatest sports cars made. Just like Ford Audi are focusing more on their electric and hybrid lineup.
I have very mixed opinions about the BMW I8. I don’t think that it looks that good and I don’t think it sounds good. There are some positives though, for starters it was the best hybrid supercar in the world for quite a while. Secondly, it has insanely good gas mileage at 148 MPG with 2 electric batteries and a turbo 3 cylinder. The problem for BMW is that sales were good in the first year, but kept declining after that, so this year BMW made the decision to stop producing the I8 in 2021. Just like Alfa Romeo, They were losing money on the car so what’s the point of even making it if it does not sell?
It’s sad that a lot of good manufacturers discontinue amazing cars even though they do it for good business reasons. Many companies discontinue cars just to bring in new ones to make the brand better. Let’s just hope all these discontinued cars will lead us to something better in the future!
