The VW "Bus" Is Back!

The VW "Bus" Is Back!

When VW stopped making the Type 2 Kombi back in 2014, people wanted a Type 3.

2020 marks 70 years of the VW Camper Van, or the “Bus”, so they made a really interesting concept called the I.D BUZZ. This new camper is supposed to go on sale in 2022 and I’m very excited.

The reason I am so excited for this new van is because I just love the VW buses! I find the Type 2 Duluxe’s really cool due to its classic car design, practicality and that you could live in them. My absolute favorite Bus is the VW Transporter, and I love going back to the UK and seeing all of the cool configurations and designs - but, unfortunately, you can’t get them in America. This new bus looks like it just might be my new favorite though! I cannot wait to see one on the road or in a showroom.

The I.D BUZZ is part of the VW new all-electric line up ( I wrote about it in The Baja Car That Might Save Gas Racing). There will be two different models to chose from, a cargo van called the I.D BUZZ-Cargo, which has a considerable amount of space for a Minivan and the Passenger Model that can seat up to 8 people and has a folding bed/table for camping.

The base price for this great van is estimated at $40k. The best part about it for me is that we are going to get them in America. Finally!.

The passenger Bus will have a permanent all-wheel drive from two electric motors near the ground to increase stability. These two electric motors produce 369 horsepower ( VW has not yet announced the torque specs). The range on the new bus is actually very good, 200-350 mIles per charge. With a quick charger, you can charge 80% of the battery in 30 min.

I am really excited for the release of this car. There is just something about a completely electric, modernized VW bus that I love the sound of and I can’t wait to see them out on the road. When that happens I will do a test drive (passenger style with Mum or Dad in the driving seat!) in one and report back. I think VW has made a really cool car here and I hope everyone agrees.
