Peel Engineering
The low horsepower company that was started in Isle of Man for its narrow streets. its Peel Engineering
Peel is a small company that was started in 1940 by Cyril Cannell. One reason he started the company is to make small economical cars that could get around the small streets of Isle of Man. He even put the 3 legs from the Isle of Mans flag on his logo.
This car you may know of, the Peel P50, the smallest road-legal car in the world. It is also the most expensive car per pound, that’s insane. The P50 has a massive 4 horsepower and 3.7 pound-feet of torque. the zero to 60 time is, none it can only go 38 miles per hour. The interior of this car is very plain with only a seat, steering wheel, and a speedometer. This is the car that you think of when you think of Peel because of its record. It is just one weird car and it is one of the coolest tiny cars you can get.
This is another one of Peels cars that is a very weird one, the Peel Trident. With the Trident the first thing you notice is the big glass roof, it just looks like the Jetsons car. Also the big glass bubble is where you get in. The Trident has space for two people (some how) because when the P50 came out people did not like that it could only fit one person. The Trident has the P50’s engine but it can only go 28 miles per hour because of the added weight. This is my favorite weird car and it just is one award piece of engineering.
This is the last car Peel Engineering ever produced and it was kind of a failure. When Peel wanted to build a proper sized car they came up with this a small slow but cool looking car, the Viking. The Viking was a cool looking car but it was slow. It only had 40 horsepower, it also had a top speed of 75 miles per hour. No one liked it so Peel only makes 26 (approximately). No one liked Peel any more and everyone just stopped buying their cars so in 1974 they went out of business.
You can actually still get the Peel P50 today, but it is electric. You can get it with No motor and put one into if you really want the gas-powered Peel. They come with tones of different options and body styles, you can even get a convertible P50. The funny thing is the new electric Peels sell better than the old ones which means we liked the Peels more when they were gone.
That’s some info about Peel and why they were amazing but failed at the same time.
