Toyota Apex Tureno (AE86)

Toyota Apex Tureno (AE86)

The legendary drifter from Initial-D, with its boxy design, was turned into a small economy car. You know it now as the Toyota Corolla.

Meet the Toyota Apex Trueno (AE86), which was the original name for the car. This was the coolest drift car that was ever produced because of its lightweight design and short wheelbase. I’m going to show you the AE86 and why it was so good.

First, let’s talk about why this thing was a good drift car. Weight was a big factor, it was light - around 2,100 pounds. It also had sharp handling. It was also small so it had a shorter wheelbase, which makes it easier to drift. Also, the suspension can be tuned with ease to make the car stiffer or softer.

Another reason this car is popular among drifters is because it was one of the main cars in the Initial-D show. As it drifted through the road so perfectly, it convinced a lot of pro-drifters to pick up an AE86. With a couple of mods like wheels, engine parts and the famous Japanese writing that says Fujiwara Tofu Store. It got the nickname Tofu Mobile.

With 112 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque, you’re not going to be drifting without upgrades. Some tuners have been able to get over 800 horsepower out of the V4 which is crazy good. This car is so cool and if tuned properly can have so much horsepower.

Last, let me talk about looks because it looks so good. With pop-up headlights (R.I.P) and its little ducktail spoiler, it has to be one of the cleanest 80’s cars ever. And it is still trying to be recreated, like take a look at the Cybertruck.

This is a really cool car and will be for a long time. It is one of the best drift cars and it looks soooooo good what more could you want. This is the best RWD Japanese car yet. Toyota made such good cars in the 80’s and 90’s so I think Toyota should redesign the AE86 who’s with me!
